Opens, memorials and championships around Zagreb 14

The Zagreb tournament year has a few fixed points. The Zagreb Open, a memorial to Krunoslav Hulak, moved to the Globus congress hall of the Zagreb fair for its eighth edition in September 2026; the memorial to Mijo Udovčić, the first Croatian grandmaster, is played at the start of January; the Tournament of Peace runs in November under the City's patronage; and the New Zagreb Classic plays in hotels in winter, with Futures U20 events later in the year. Each July the Grand Chess Tour brings rapid and blitz to the Westin, with open and youth sections beside the main event.

The associations hold the city cadet championships in spring and the Zagreb County Cup in Sveta Nedelja in February, and the county team blitz championship has been played in Jastrebarsko for all but its first edition. Smaller places have events of their own, such as the Rokovo v Luki team tournament in August, and the Zagreb Advent tournaments, rapid and standard, are played in local committee rooms from late November. League matches are not listed one by one; they appear on the clubs' entries.
